The Biltmore Theater 1968 HAiR the Musical offset print 20" x 14" unframed
Love is The Answer
HAiR is more relevant today than it was 53 years ago when we started. The world was a mess. We were out on the streets protesting the war in Viet Nam. The Government was sending kids of color to the front lines while a lot of priveledged kids were getting deferments. JFK's assassinations took our faith away in government, then his brother was murdered. The assassination of Martin Luther King was a horrible moment. The assignation of John Lennon was again shocking and everyone was following the narrative. We did not have words like "fake news". It was what it was. Our mothers were stoned on diet pills, our fathers were working two jobs. We were cutting out of class to hang out under the bleachers are taking day trips to the Planting Fields to trip on Mushrooms. The woman’s liberation movement was in full force. Women were burning their bras to protest. 1968 was declared the Summer of Love. Theirs was the age of Aquarius.
Today 2022, the planet is in worst chaos then it was 50 years ago.
"Instead of peace and love there seems to be a lot more aggression, gun violence, intolerance for differences, divisiveness and meanness encouraged by some politicians and media. While there's been some progress in civil rights, a lot of attitudes we thought would change seem to have changed for the worse." HAiR Tribe Family Member Barbara Stewart Green
Today, the drugs the kids are taking are deadly. What's going on in North Korea and China are in our face and no one is doing anything about it. The war in Ukraine is unprecedented. The freedoms are taken away from people in Australia and Pakistan. Everyone is on edge and fighting each other with the divides created by the media.
The hippies had it right! John Lennon, MLK, JFK, RFK all had it right. Love is the answer.
